Want to Act? 5 Reasons to Take an Acting Class

(Every blog post read here helps to raise funds for families in need. Education that gives back. Simple. Powerful. Thank you for reading.)

Are you an aspiring Hollywood actor or actress?  If so, are you or have you recently taken an acting class?

If not, you should take this step.  After all, acting classes have their benefits.  In fact, five reasons why you should take an acting class are outlined below.

1 – It Looks Good on a Resume

Yes, when it comes to landing an acting role, your appearance and ability to act play huge roles, but so does your resume.  In fact, your resume is what could land you a scheduled audition.  A resume with an acting class listed under training is likely to get more attention than a resume with no formal training.  As a reminder, appearances play a big role as well, so be sure to attach a quality headshot to your resume.

2 – You Gain Acting Experience

Acting classes do come in several different formats, but you will gain acting experience.  Many times, sessions are divided into a classroom setting and hands on learning.  Even if you are just standing in front of the class reciting a monologue, you are gaining experience.  This experience can set you apart from the competition.  If you have yet to act, even in a community play, it can give you much needed experience, even if just small.

3 – Is Considered Formal Training

An acting class is considered formal training.  If you were to take an acting course, which is multiple classes joined together, you will likely walk away with a certificate of completion.  Although not a degree, it still highlights the training and experience you gained.

As previously stated, acting classes come in several different formats.  Those that come highly rated and recommended are not just taught by anyone.  The instructors are usually former actors or those who have a degree in theatre.   This means that you walk away with a lot of knowledge.

4 – The Feedback Provided

Acting class instructors have nothing to gain by boosting your ego.  It is their job to improve your acting skills.  In fact, that is what you are paying them to do.  For that reason, you get feedback.  That feedback may be a combination of positive and negative.  As difficult as it is to have your work dissected and torn apart, criticism can be used to your advantage.  Experienced actors always have improvement tips.  Take those tips and implement them.

5 – The Inside Information Shared

As previously stated, many acting instructors are former actors or those who have experience in the business.  This can work to your advantage.  Not only can helpfully audition tips be shared, but information on auditions, open casting calls, and agents may be discussed.  There is nothing better than hearing this information firsthand through someone who has been in your shoes before.

Acting classes come in several different formats.  Due to their frequency, most have affordable rates and flexible class times.  An acting class can have as few as five students, but as many as twenty or more.  A public class is nice, due to your ability to network.  However, if you are looking for one-on-one acting help, examine private acting coaches.

Since you now know some of the benefits to taking an acting class, are you ready to get started?  You should be, as it can only help your career.

Film School and God

It has been a while since I have updated these blogs. It has been a very busy road to Hollywood and I am loving every minute of it. The blessings I have been given, just getting out here are amazing, and now it is time to show what I can do. This is my first week in the LA FILM SCHOOL and it has been very interesting. After eight years of being out of school (last one being the Art Institute of Atlanta) and running my own studio for the past ten years, it is really hard to get back into the groove of school. It is slower that I am use too, but that should prove to be a good thing, as I am able to work on tons of projects at once and help out as many other students as possible. It is great to meet other Classmates with the same faith focus as I do. I pray God uses us all to do mighty projects that will help many people in need. My main goal is to make the best projects with great meaning to them. If these projects can go to film festivals, speak to the hearts of the culture and h

Changing Hollywood for Families

IndieCross Studios was formed to change Hollywood for families. Period. That is the reason for everything we do. The first episode of our new webisode series, "Makin It LA" is exactly that. From networking with passionate writers, actors, and filmmakers, to making films that they can showcase their talent with. From talking to families and viewers to see what they want to give them high-quality alternatives delivered straight to their televisions, computers, and mobile devices. This is a brand new way of doing "Hollywood". We are listening to the viewers, giving artists an outlet, and distributing the films directly to the people who want them. If you want to join the cause, go to www.indiecross.com, find out more about us, and get involved. We are changing lives in Hollywood, giving families what they want and building a "new way" of doing films. :) Layne McDonald
