Working in Hollywood: The Importance of Connections

(Every blog post read here helps to raise funds for families in need. Education that gives back. Simple. Powerful. Thank you for reading.)

Do you want to make a living working in Hollywood?  If so, you will hear a lot of tips and good advice.  For example, you will be told that practice makes perfect and that having the right look is important.  These are great tips to make it big in Hollywood; however, there is one step that you must take.  That step is making the right connections.  You may be surprised how being connected can help you with a career in Hollywood.

Having the right connections can help you get into the right acting classes.  Connections can also help you get a spot with the best acting coach.  Acting coaches only take on a limited number of clients at a time, but if you come highly rated and recommended or have a connection, an exception may be made.  Not only that, but an acting coach and classes can give you experience, which looks great on a resume.

When looking to work in Hollywood, many professionals recommend getting an agent.  Unfortunately, you don’t just pick an agent, they also pick you.  Professional agents are selective in who they represent.  Although a good resume, the right looks, and experience acting can help, so can having connections.  In addition, a professional agent is the perfect Hollywood connection, as an unlimited number of doors can open for you when represented by a professional in the business.

If you are relocating to Hollywood, connections not only help you to further your career, but they also give you important friendships and interaction.  Nothing is scarier than moving to a new city or state where you do not know anyone.  Getting out and socializing can prevent you from being alone.

Having good connections in Hollywood can help you get inside information for open casting calls.  Although open casting calls are usually advertised, it is hard to find them all.  By carefully choosing your Hollywood contacts, you can get a friend or acquaintance who shares this important information with you.

In addition to learning the dates, times, and locations of open casting calls, Hollywood connections can also land you scheduled auditions.  Did you make friends with a makeup artist?  She may have inside information on a new part being cast for a television show.  You may even be provided with contact information to schedule an audition or at least submit your resume.

Hollywood connections can also help you perfect your trade.  We all know that auditions are the most important part of starting a Hollywood acting career.  However, if you are new to acting, the thought of auditioning may leave you a nervous wreck.  What if you had developed a friendship with another aspiring actor or actress who has been in your shoes?  He or she could not only help you prepare for your audition but share helpful tips and tricks.

As highlighted above, there are a few ways that aspiring actors and actresses can benefit from making connections in Hollywood, but they are not the only ones.  Do you want to be a writer, costume designer, or makeup artist?  If so, making all the right connections can help you too.

In short, the right connections can help you have a successful career in Hollywood, whether it be behind or in front of the camera.  So, get started with socializing today.  Do so online or in person.

Film School and God

It has been a while since I have updated these blogs. It has been a very busy road to Hollywood and I am loving every minute of it. The blessings I have been given, just getting out here are amazing, and now it is time to show what I can do. This is my first week in the LA FILM SCHOOL and it has been very interesting. After eight years of being out of school (last one being the Art Institute of Atlanta) and running my own studio for the past ten years, it is really hard to get back into the groove of school. It is slower that I am use too, but that should prove to be a good thing, as I am able to work on tons of projects at once and help out as many other students as possible. It is great to meet other Classmates with the same faith focus as I do. I pray God uses us all to do mighty projects that will help many people in need. My main goal is to make the best projects with great meaning to them. If these projects can go to film festivals, speak to the hearts of the culture and h

Changing Hollywood for Families

IndieCross Studios was formed to change Hollywood for families. Period. That is the reason for everything we do. The first episode of our new webisode series, "Makin It LA" is exactly that. From networking with passionate writers, actors, and filmmakers, to making films that they can showcase their talent with. From talking to families and viewers to see what they want to give them high-quality alternatives delivered straight to their televisions, computers, and mobile devices. This is a brand new way of doing "Hollywood". We are listening to the viewers, giving artists an outlet, and distributing the films directly to the people who want them. If you want to join the cause, go to www.indiecross.com, find out more about us, and get involved. We are changing lives in Hollywood, giving families what they want and building a "new way" of doing films. :) Layne McDonald
